Students will expect to learn and practice the fundamentals of watercolor painting while exploring interesting and fun subjects. We will explore materials and tools, techniques, and the elements of composition, color, and value/light to improve our fluency in the medium. 


Christina Girardi
Christina is an artist based in the Washington, DC, area. She employs a representational approach to still life, landscapes en plein air, the figure, and portraits with a fresh and contemporary style. She works in watercolor, gouache, oils, and dry media. Her passion lies in documenting and portraying a sense of place through on-site sketches and paintings of locations with nostalgic or current human interactions. She aims to inspire younger generations about the value of observing, drawing, and painting directly from life. 

Christina has placed in regional plein air competitions, including Second Place in the Falls Church Plein Air Festival in 2017, and her work has appeared on WUSA9. Her paintings and illustrations are included in various private collections and commissions including the American University Emerging Arts Leaders Symposium (EALS), Venture Philanthropy Partners, Quiévremont Winery, and Ecosystems. Christina is a member of the Portrait Society of America, and is currently a member artist in the Alexia Scott Studio Gallery in Falls Church, Virginia.

Christina earned a BA in Art History and Italian with a minor in Studio Art, focusing on painting and printmaking, from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and an MA in Arts Management from American University. She is active in the local DC Metro Area visual arts community and continues to train with local artists.
