Jenny Paxton

I live and work as a calligrapher in the Washington, DC area with my husband, Jason, and hedgehog, Hoodie. I specifically remember starting my quest for admirable handwriting in the fourth grade after admiring the letter “a” of a classmate’s. True story.

My calligraphy career began while attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I was frequently asked to address engaged friends’ wedding invitations. After graduation, I moved to Washington, DC, to enroll in The George Washington University’s Event Management Program. While I studied event planning, I thought surely there have to be classes here where I can learn “real” calligraphy. I still take and teach as many classes as I possibly can and am a member of the Washington Calligraphers Guild and the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting.

I consider it a true honor to be a part of my clients’ weddings, celebrations, and gifts for loved ones or even themselves. A stack of blank envelopes waiting to be addressed both excites and relaxes me. I’ve been teaching classes since 2018 and it’s one of my favorite things to do! When my hand gets tired from writing, you can find me running (lots of) races, eating (out) or dreaming of my next Disney trip..
