My work rarely begins with a known outcome. I start with a single object (my blank canvas) and work organically from there, mining my collection of found objects for pieces that work visually together. There’s a lot of trial and error. I follow the basic principles of design in making my selections. If a theme or narrative begins to emerge, that’s great, but it’s rarely a goal. For this piece, I began with the wood frame. Once I found the gutter guards, which were the same length as the frame, the piece evolved fluidly from there.
