The Magic Flute
Sitting in a pile in an antiques store, the dented and tarnished flute parts called out for an encore as a polished tribute to their musical past. Now, the exposed holes are like portals to the music. The keys, long separated from the flute, float like musical notes. In celebrating the parts, we can appreciate the magic of the whole. Maybe the music is in the instrument even before its played. DC artist Beth Nogay Carenbauer creates quilt-like wall hangings that celebrate vintage and ordinary objects in an art form that reflects her West Virginia roots.
