My work is about emotions. I pour my feelings into my painting, relying on the raw emotions from life experiences. In my paintings I try to hold nothing back to create an intimate connection, between myself and what I am painting. In trying to reach deep into how a subject makes me feel, into the connection I get from looking at, listening to, or experiencing a moment, that emotion transcends onto my canvas. Sometimes that makes me feel the need to paint what is unconventional, as in my Covid heroes series.
I’m inspired by nature’s beauty, people, animals, and current events. My paintings can range from landscapes, to still life, pets, people, and abstract.
I use a range of mediums, acrylics, cold wax and oils, collage, and paint on wood panel, paper, and canvas. I accept commission work.
Mostly, I am a self taught artist, who has drawn and painted from early childhood. During my late teens, I studied with a local artist, Blanche Kirchner, and attended NOVA community college, as an art major. For a long period of time, during my career, and raising a family, I let go of my art, but not the desire to create. It was only during my late 50’s and on turning 60, that I started to find myself able to really paint.
The past several year have found me studying with west coast artist, Nicholas Wilton, founder of Art2life Creative Visionary Program, and with Louise Fletcher, of Yorkshire England, and founder of Find Your Joy, and Find Your Voice, creative programs.
