I am a studio potter specializing in crystalline glazes. These glazes are challenging and temperamental, but when all the variables come together, the final results are magical. I make all my crystalline glazes in small batches, and the formulation involves chemistry, precise measurements, and a bit of luck. The crystals grow when the vessel is fired in the kiln, and they are unpredictable in their form, size, and placement. All of my crystalline work is made on a potter’s wheel. I am drawn to the challenges of the wheel and pushing the clay to its limits. I envision how each vessel will serve as a canvas for the glaze and strive to find a balance between aesthetics and functionality.
