Academic Drawing (Jan-Feb, 2024)

Instructor: Iryna Smitchkova

Mondays | January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 2024 | 1:30-3:30 pm | all levels | $200 | pencil | Falls Church Art Gallery

Academic drawing was born in Italy and is still considered the basis of any painting. The goal of academic drawing is to analyze a 3-D shape and render it on paper as a 2-D image. This isn’t a simple copying of geometric shapes, but rather the ability to think analytically and recreate the complex shapes of objects from simple geometric shapes. The course is based on the excellent teaching methodology personally developed by Irina Smitchkova which has given many students fundamental knowledge of academic drawing.
